# GMIT HACKATHON 2026 – “Sustainable Mining: Systematic Solutions” Successfully Concluded

The German-Mongolian Institute for Resources and Technology (GMIT) successfully organized “GMIT Hackathon 2026 – Sustainable Mining: Systematic Solutions.”

The hackathon was designed to provide university students with the opportunity to work on real-world mining industry case studies under the framework of the **Towards Sustainable Mining** standard, analyze challenges, and develop practical and implementable solutions.

## Partner Organizations

The event was organized with the support and collaboration of the following organizations:

* Partner Organization: Mongolian National Mining Association

* Sponsor: Governor’s Office of Nalaikh District

* Supporting Organization: Darkhan Metallurgical Plant

## Participants:

A total of 11 teams participated in the hackathon, fostering interdisciplinary and inter-university collaboration. The participating teams included:

* 6 teams from GMIT

* 1 team from the Mongolian University of Science and Technology (MUST)

* 2 joint teams from the Mongolian University of Science and Technology MUST and the National University of Mongolia (NUM)

* 2 joint teams consisting of students from GMIT and other higher education institutions

Throughout the competition, participants worked on real mining industry case studies, demonstrating their problem-solving, analytical, teamwork, and innovation skills while presenting practical solutions that can contribute to sustainable mining.

## Competition Results:

Based on the judges’ final evaluation, the following teams were awarded. The *top four places were won by GMIT teams*, while the ToSMM Special Award was presented to a joint team from MUST and NUM.

🥉 Third Prize – MNT 1,000,000- “Thriving SysteM” Team

Judges’ Special Award – MNT 500,000- “Mixture36” Team

ToSMM Project Special Award – MNT 300,000-“Dust2life” Team

**GMIT Hackathon 2026** provided students with a valuable opportunity to develop practical solutions for sustainable mining challenges, strengthen their professional competencies, and collaborate with industry partners in addressing real-world issues.
