Dear members of the jury,

Dear participants, colleagues, and friends,

It is my great pleasure to welcome you to Falling Walls Lab Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia 2026.

GMIT has been proud to host Falling Walls Lab Mongolia since 2019. Every year, this event gives young researchers, students, and innovators a chance to present their ideas, challenge existing thinking, and connect with an international community.

What makes Falling Walls special is its simple but powerful question:

Which wall do you want to break?

This year, we have eight excellent finalists, and their topics show just how diverse innovation can be.

They will speak about medical prostheses and kidney disease, peer bullying, connecting nomadic life with the digital world, lithium resources, strategic energy reserves, medical information, radiation technology, waste separation, and converting wastewater into bioelectricity.

These are very different topics. But they have something in common: 

each one identifies a wall—and looks for a way to overcome it.

Some walls are technological. Some are social. Some are environmental. And some are simply walls in the way we think.

This is exactly why we need events like Falling Walls Lab.

As a university focused on engineering, technology, resources, and sustainable development, GMIT is very pleased to provide a platform where different disciplines can meet and where young people can turn their ideas into solutions.

I would also like to thank our partners and supporters, especially the Falling Walls Foundation, DAAD, the German Embassy, the Ministry of Economy and Development, AMPMC NGO, the National University of Mongolia, KAS, GIZ and all organizations and individuals who have contributed to this event.

This year is also particularly meaningful because we are celebrating 100 years of educational exchange between Mongolia and Germany.

For us, Falling Walls is another example of this long-standing connection—bringing young Mongolian innovators into an international network of science, technology, and ideas.

You have only three minutes.

Tell us what wall you want to break, why it matters, and how your idea can help us move beyond it.

The jury will have a difficult task today because we have eight candidates with different backgrounds and different ideas.

But there will be one winner.

The winner of Falling Walls Lab Mongolia 2026 will have the opportunity to travel to Berlin and participate in the Falling Walls Science Summit, where they will meet and exchange ideas with leading figures from science, business, and policymaking around the world.

I wish all 8 candidates the very best. I hope that today’s presentations will inspire our jury, our audience, and, most importantly, each other.

And to the winner: we look forward to seeing you represent Mongolia in Berlin at the Falling Walls Science Summit in November 2026.

With that, I am very pleased to declare Falling Walls Lab Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia 2026 officially open.
