From Extraction to Value-Added Processing: Building the Workforce for Mongolia's Industrial Future

To meet the workforce demands of Mongolia's major industrial development projects and align engineering and technology education with the practical needs of industry, Erdenes Industrial Technology Park LLC has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the National University of Mongolia (NUM), the Mongolian University of Science and Technology (MUST), and the German-Mongolian Institute for Resources and Technology (GMIT).

As Mongolia moves forward with strategic industrial projects—including an oil refinery, steel plant, copper smelter, coal pyrolysis plant, and industrial parks—developing a highly skilled domestic engineering workforce has become a national priority.

Under the partnership, the parties will collaborate in the following areas:

* Promoting research-driven industrial development;

* Strengthening тpractice-oriented engineering education and hands-on training;

* Advancing engineering education in line with international standards;

* Jointly developing a sustainable system for educating and training the next generation of industrial professionals.

This collaboration will support Mongolia's transition from an extraction-based economy to value-added industrial production while making a significant contribution to preparing highly qualified engineers and technical professionals for the country's major industrial projects.
