GMIT students host the first “GMIT Hackathon 2024”

The inaugural "GMIT Hackathon 2024" concluded with success. The students from the Industrial Engineering program at the GMIT took the initiative to organize this hackathon as part of their Project Management course on March 2 and 3, 2024.
The competition was made possible through the sponsorship of the Australian-Mongolian Mineral Resources Cooperation Program (AMEP) and the support of the GMIT. Over two days at the GMIT campus, 45 students from 9 teams representing the National University of Mongolia, the University of Finance and Economics, and the GMIT collaborated to address challenges in the mining industry, showcasing their creativity and technological prowess. GMIT Vice-Rector for Research and Academic Affairs Prof. L.Altangerel, Mr. Sebastian Burghoff, the Project Manager of “GIZ-GMIT”, and Mrs. Rena Guenduez, the Team leader of the “AMEP” program, inaugurated the event. They extended their warm greetings, wished success to the participating teams, and distributed handouts.

The teams tackled issues related to mining technology, environmental impact, and local development, exploring the intersection with the theme of sustainable development. The "Geldgraber" team from GMIT secured the first-place position, followed by the "Daylight" team of GMIT in second place, and the "GDSC-NUM" team from the National University of Mongolia in third place.
The distinguished panel of judges, including Mrs. Rena Güendüez from the "AMEP" program, Z. Sunduy, the executive director of "Asian Battery Minerals" company, and D.Enkhbold, a consultant at "Erdene Mongolia" company, played a crucial role in selecting the top three teams.
The organizers express their gratitude to the "AMEP" program and the esteemed judges for their invaluable support in bringing the first "GMIT Hackathon" competition at GMIT to fruition.
