German Parliamentary State Secretary of the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development and Mongolian Minister of Education and Science paid an official visit to the GMIT

German Parliamentary State Secretary of the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development, Mr. Niels Annen, and Minister of Education and Science, L. Enkh-Amgalan, have visited the German-Mongolian Institute for Resources and Technology (GMIT) in Nalaikh. Both were accompanied by the Ambassador of Germany to Mongolia, H.E. Jörn Rosenberg and representatives of the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) and the KfW Development Bank.

The German-Mongolian Institute for Resources and Technology is responding to the demand for highly qualified engineers in the Mongolian natural resources sector. Through close cooperation with German partner universities GMIT transfers international scientific expertise and modern academic standards to Mongolia. At the same time, through its practice-oriented engineering education, the university provides an impetus to better interlink the educational sector and the economy. From an organizational point of view, the GMIT also serves as a role model for the Mongolian higher education system, for example by acting in its control/management structure according to the principles of modern university management and institutional autonomy.

During the meeting, GMIT Rector Prof. B. Battsengel held a detailed presentation particularly with regard to the past and present achievements of the binational university. Moreover, the Rector stressed the particular relevance of the timely completion of GMIT campus extension process. GMIT will be hereafter the first campus university in Mongolia and will offer its students excellent framework conditions for a successfully study. Currently nearly all GMIT graduates are engaged in a qualified employment or have started for a continuative master degree.

At the end of the visit Minister Enkh-Amgalan and Parliamentary State Secretary Annen were carrying out the symbolically inauguration the new second GMIT dormitory, which is funded by the Mongolian government. The new dormitory building is a five-story building with a minimum of 363 beds in a combination of traditional, double occupancy rooms and 11 one-bedroom apartments; 10,149 square meters of total spaces, an indoor garage, elevator, and decorated outdoor space for campus activities.
